AllSky Project

March 7, 2021

This is the main time-sink right now that keeps my brain active. It has taught me a lot about the Raspberry Pi hardware & software, and some of the basic coding in bash/shell & python.

A lucky capture of a meteor streaking over Boise on March 3rd, 2021. The image is a little out of focus, but its not too shabby.

The original (and current) project page can be found on GitHub, thanks to Thomas Jacquin – . The learning curve isn’t too steep, but there is one for those who aren’t too familiar with the hardware or software, or technology-challenged. Thomas provides some wonderful documentation, and keeps the project & code current and up to date.

I’ve posted a link to my hosted AllSky data on this page, and you can also find it here (opens in new tab). I’ve made a few tweaks and mods to personalize it a little bit, but full credit goes to Thomas for the hard work of the base coding and his support to the project over the years.

I’ll post more of the project soon, listing out the pieces & parts I stuck together, photos of the guts of the box, as well as some explanations and descriptions of what all I stuck in the box. If all goes as planned, I plan on starting a new AllSky build this spring, and I’ll do my best to document everything I can along the way, to include pictures, notes and modified code (i should probably learn GitHub..).
